It's powered courtesy of a naturally aspirated engine of 1.8 litre capacity. This powerplant features overhead valve valve gear, 4 cylinder layout, and 2 valves per cylinder.

The Volvo P1800 is a 2+2, front-engine, rear-drive sports car manufactured and marketed by Volvo Cars between 1961 and 1973. Originally a coupe (1961–1972), it was altered into a shooting-brake for the remainder of its production (1972–1973).

The P1800 is incredibly robust and built for the long-haul, which is a good thing because these cars are more touring than sports. The Volvo P1800 was introduced in 1957 with the X1 prototype. After the P1900, it was the second model with which Volvo hoped to penetrate the sports car market. The definitive model, designed by Pelle Petterson, who worked for the Italian Carrozzeria Frua at the time, was presented to the public for the first time at the 1960 Brussels Motor Show.
